A mini post… ode maybe… to this Dermalogica product.
I don’t have sensitive skin. Far from it actually. Apart from that, my skin is pretty normal. Maybe dry sometimes.
And one of my favorite things to do is exfoliate my face! For a long time, I used Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish. But then The Ordinary happened and it seemed like everyone was saying “chemical exfoliators are way better for your skin! Physical exfoliants BAD!” So I tried some chemical ones (Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, Pixi Glow Tonic Serum) and the only one I felt that worked was Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial, which I got in a Sephora monthly box I believe. It was great! But the tiny bottle only lasted so long and I couldn’t see myself spending $80 for a full bottle.
And frankly, nothing felt as nice as a physical exfoliator to me….
I found out about Dermalogica and how it’s the most recommended physical exfoliator around. I asked for a sample bottle for Christmas last year and was very excited to receive it! I tried it and it fulfilled my need for the physical exfoliating feeling and left my skin feeling smooth and soft! I didn’t use it daily, more like maybe twice a week (though it does say daily so it’s gentle enough!) The little bottle lasted me like 4/5 months, it was fantastic!
I just recently bought another sample bottle (for $15, I think the regular size is $60?) after being without it for a long time. I love it still. It apparently is a rice-based powder which seems a lot better than sugar bits or or whatever else physical exfoliators use. It’s definitely more gentle!
You just add a little bit to your wet hands, rub together to make a paste and apply to your face in circular motions. I would say the ONLY thing I don’t love about it is the smell. I don’t know how to explain it, but the best way I can is wet diaper. Not like urine-wet, just like someone dropped a clean diaper in a full sink. It’s a strange but clean scent. I honestly can’t say I hate it, it’s just strange to me! And sometimes I feel like it’s all I smell for the rest of the day…
But if you’re looking for an exfoliator, I highly recommend this one! I know many people probably have more sensitivity than I do, but I still think it’d work well for those with sensitive skin! It really doesn’t feel harsh at all. Just so fresh and so clean 😉
